Your VIP backstage pass to #NYFW …via your iPhone

Posted on Monday, 9th September, 2013

Well there’s one thing for sure—having a backstage pass is no longer a dream during #NYFW. Designers, editors, bloggers, and models have become social pros and your VIP pass is now located in every social app in your iPhone.

The fashion Industry has opened up their once elite only Altuzarra-clad crowd to mass social crowds, eyeballs and voices—much more this season than I have seen in the past ie: live streaming shows etc, and I’m loving all the cross-platform gridlock hashtags #NYFW #SS14.

For the most part if you are looking for realtime updates—Twitter & Instagram are your go-to for constant RTs and grams from repost app. Just keeping up with everything might be more exhausting than running round town in these or these. (BTW, Eva Chen you are my hero).

Pinterest seems to be the place for all things archived from the days’ events which makes perfect sense. I don’t really see Pinterest as a real time update platform—and even though not many of the looks can be purchased now—it still drives the most referrals and purchase intent of any social platform, period.

Who’s using social differently than before?
6 notable mentions (b/c I couldn’t get to 5).

1) Instagram is where the party’s at! WhoWhatWear made a GREAT list of the top 37 Twitter/Instagram accounts to follow — the best I’ve seen so far. The beauty is insane this season. Get on that.

2) JCrew is hanging out on Pinterest for the most part…they’ve been gramming a little bit more over the past few days but not as much as others.

3) Rebecca Minkoff told everyone she’d be sending out pre-runway looks on Snapchat—but I didn’t get any. Boo. What happened?

4) Rachel Zoe and Dannijo are “offering backstage access” in a Google+ Hangout with a pretty impressive lineup

5) Google has a dedicated Shopping page called Google Shortlists –to shop the looks discussed in the hangouts just for NYFW- (ie: Rachel Zoe and Dannijo) …nice partnership!

6) My fav financial company AMEX is all over NYFW too- with their sync program and original content (love that!)

Who’s in your feed the most?

Snapchat snafu aside, kudos to Rebecca Minkoff’s social team. Well done across the board. Finding the right people to follow is often the easiest — savvy imagery, witty headlines…what they post is what will make their collection stand out the most. Who do you think has been posting the most likeable and sharable styles this week?

Brands? Designers? Bloggers? Models?
